A pub sign with a difference
Pubs have long been used as landmarks for navigation, they are helpful because they are quite easily recognised (most of them have a sign hanging outside) and it helps that many of them are built at road junctions. This sign at Singleton, West Sussex is unusual, possibly unique (if you know of a similar example then let me know), because it points to nearby pubs.

Chris Evans to close Sussex pub
Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans is to sell another of his pubs, the Lickfold Inn in Petworth, West Sussex. The multi-millionaire blamed the credit crunch as trade dipped at the pub. "After almost three years I have sadly had to make the decision to close the Lickfold Inn," said Camilla Hansen of Evans Pubs.

A Peacehaven couple have managed to combine 40 years of marriage with 40 years of working alongside each other. Lyn and Jerry Dudeney have been landlord and landlady of the Dew Drop Inn since their marriage in 1968.

A Sussex pub is toasting its own success after winning a national award. The Mark Cross Inn near Crowborough was named Customer Service Pub of the Year at the Publican Awards 2009 in a ceremony in London last week.

Last orders? Not if Bosham punters can help it!
A campaign has been launched by punters in Bosham to buy their beloved pub which they feel was shut unnecessarily. The White Swan next to the Broadbridge Roundabout closed at the end of February, angering locals who felt it was still viable as a business. Now they have formed action group Save Our Swan in a bid to buy the pub and run it through a board of trustees.

Marco Pierre White launches first in pub chain
Marco Pierre White is re-opening an East Sussex pub this week, with long-term plans to acquire up to 14 more sites. Independent pub company Powder Train, which has owned the Chequers at Maresfield, near Uckfield, since 2006, embarked on the joint venture with White at the end of last year. The 18th-century pub will re-open on Friday under the Wheeler's brand following an extensive £150,000 refurbishment.
