  2. 2Beer at its best. The Cask Pub and Kitchen

    Last week in Brighton on our way to the hugely anticipated meal at The Coal Shed, JB and I decided to stop somewhere for a couple of decent ales and a snack before the main event. The Cask Pub and Kitchen seemed like the obvious choice. There has been a fair bit of chatter surrounding the newly opened posh Sussex boozer but luckily nearly all of it has been good. Despite my nervousness as this once was one of my favourite pubs the Hop Poles, and previous to that the Spotted Dog, I was keen to see what all the fuss was about.

  3. 3Bid to save village pub

    A pub regular is launching an ambitious bid to save his local. The Old Courthouse in Westfield had been on the market for around two years, but finally closed its doors last month after the landlord failed to find a buyer. But John Allwood believes that if villagers pulled together and each bought a stake in the pub, the popular hostelry could be saved.

  4. 4Loxwood Beer and Music Festival

    The countdown to Saturday 26th May starts now. So charge up your glasses and come to North Hall in Loxwood to join in the fun. The Festival begins at 2pm and our last band leaves the stage at 11pm. It's one of the biggest and best days (and nights) in our village calendar. Yes it's the 12th Loxwood Beer and Music Festival and thanks to your phenomenal support we just keep getting bigger and better each year. Our festival this year will follow the usual format of fantastic live music, thirst quenching booze, a mouth-watering hog roast, a sizzling BBQ, raffles, barrow of booze and fun in the sun for the kids.     The Royal Sovereign is one of Brighton's best and most celebrated freehouses. We're proud to offer a delicious and varied locally sourced menu, great entertainment and a welcoming atmosphere from our lovely staff. We offer an excellent selection of well-kept local Sussex ales, and also have a wide range of Belgium beers. Our wines and lagers cover all the old favourites as well as a few interesting extras. The Sovereign has been famous for its amazing roast dinners for years, and now it's official; this year we're the proud and worthy winners of the 'Brighton's Best Sunday Roast 2012' award. In addition, we host a Steak Night every Thursday, which is just as popular. There is no reason for vegetarians to miss out on the fun, as we offer an equally tasty veggie option. We have Happy Hour from Monday to Friday, 4pm - 7pm, and Sunday 7pm until close. We also have fantastic drink deals available, including 3 for 2 on all your favourite shots as well as house double deals. The Royal Sovereign is also a dog-friendly pub, so feel free to bring your well-behaved furry friends. We also have a superb function room which is available to hire at no cost, and is the perfect environment for a get-together with friends. With our suntrap of a beer garden, close proximity to the beach and choice of cool beers to sip, the Sovereign is THE place to be this summer.
